Mrs. Phyllis Krull, age 82, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, September 24, 2010, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.
There will be a memorial service on Monday, September 27, at 11:00am, at the American Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Keith Krebs will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Evergreen Cemetery in George. There will be a prayer service on Monday, at 9:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Phyllis Arlene was born on February 8, 1928, in rural George, the daughter of Peter M. and Anna (Symens) Ackerman. She was raised in George, where she graduated from high school. She first worked in the offices of Drs. Schoon & Bosch in Sibley.
On September 1, 1949, she married Ivan Krull in George. They made their home in George, where she was employed by other physicians and a car dealership. In 1954, they moved to Doon. She then worked in a nursing home in Rock Valley and for Dr. Griesy in Rock Valley and Rock Rapids until 1973. She also dabbled in direct sales, such as Tupperware and Amway. Mr. and Mrs. Krull then both worked for Krull Construction in Orange City. Ivan passed away on February 10, 1986, in Orange City.
Phyllis then moved to Orange City. In 1999, health problems required her to move to assisted living facilities and nursing homes. Since October of 2007, she has made her home at the Heritage House.
She was currently a member of the American Reformed Church. In earlier years, she belonged to the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school classes, and served as treasurer. Later, she was a member of the Doon Congregational Church, where she also sang in the choir, taught in and served as superintendent of the Sunday school, and was active in the May Flower Guild. She enjoyed sewing and reading.
Survivors include her four sons, a daughter, eleven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, Russell Krull, and his wife, Barbara, of Alton, and their two children, Andrew Krull, and his wife, Jess, and their two children, Wyatt and Zenna, and Amanda, and her husband, Chad Benda, and their two children, Christian and Rylee; Curtis Krull, of Alton, and his two sons, Jason and Joshua Krull, and two step-children, Rick Hogan, and his wife, Lisa, and their two sons, Nick and Nathan, and Melissa, and her husband, Paul Grossman, and their three children, Zachery, Austin, and Nicole; Alan Krull, and his wife, Rachel, of Alton, and their two children, Aaron Krull, and his wife, Sarah, and Abby Krull; and Donald Krull, and his wife, Kim, of Alton, and their three children, Savanah, and her husband, Cale Hall, Jesse Krull, and Tanner Krull; and Vicki, and her husband, Craig Ishman, of Eagan, Minnesota, and their two sons, Colin and Luke Ishman; three sisters, Lavina Lichtenberg, and Ruthann, and her husband, Gary Haan, all of George, and Eleanor, and her husband, John Hartley, of Ontario, California; three brothers and their wives, Merle and Marcia Ackerman, of California, Larry and Beverly Ackerman, of Arvada, Colorado, and David and Mitzi Ackerman, of Northfield, Minnesota; four sisters-in-law, Iona, Margaret, and Henrietta Krull, and Evelyn Olson; and many nephews, nieces, and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin, and a sister, Marie.
