DEATH OF MISS LUELLA CANAN
PASSED AWAY AT HOME IN THIS CITY WEDNESDAY MORNING
Was 62 Years Old and Had Lived in Hawarden 35 Years.--Funeral Will be Held Friday

Miss Luella Canan, for thirty-five years a resident of Hawarden, passed away at her home in Hawarden about 6 o'clock Wednesday morning [Jan. 23]. She had been in gradually failing health for the past year or two and an attack of influenza several weeks ago aggravated her condition and resulted in her death. Her condition had been quite critical for several days preceding her death.

Funeral services well be held at the Barnard Funeral Home, probably Friday afternoon at an hour not yet determined. The service will be in charge of the Order of Eastern Star with Rev. T. H. Harding, pastor of the Associated church, as the officiating minister. Burial will be in Grace Hill cemetery.

Luella Canan was born at Andrew, Iowa, Dec. 14, 1872, so was past 62 years of age at the time of her death. She grew to young womanhood at Andrew and Bellevue, Iowa, and following the death of her aunt, Mrs. H. I. Trump, came to Hawarden thirty-five years ago to make a home for Mr. Trump and has since continued to reside here. Shortly after she came to Hawarden Mr. Trump opened a variety store in this city and Miss Canan has been identified with this business ever since it was started. For many years in addition to looking after home duties she has been in practical charge of the business and continued her duties in the store until about the first of this year when her physical condition no longer permitted her to remain at her accustomed post. Mr. Trump has also been in feeble health and his condition was a constant tax on her energy.

Miss Canan united with the Presbyterian church at Bellevue before coming to Hawarden and always retained her membership there. She was long a member of the local Eastern Star lodge and took an active part in the work until her health began to fail a couple of years ago. For years she served as treasurer of the local lodge. She was also a member of the Kensington Club and Associated Ladies' Aid.

Miss Canan lived a life of sacrifice and true devotion to others. Her business dealings with the public and with business associates were honorable to a high degree and there is widespread regret at her passing.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. P. J. Weber of Bellevue, Iowa, two nieces, Miss Martha Weber of Bellevue and Miss Virginia Weber of Dubuque, and her aged uncle, H. I. Trump of Hawarden.
