The dead body of a man was found in the Rock river, Friday evening about seven o'clock, by H. K. Semonsma, near his farm half a mile north of town. His face was badly disfigured by water so he could not be recognized. The body was at once removed to the town hall and Coroner Huizenga called. Papers on his person stated that he was W. H. Lavin of Fort Dodge Iowa, traveling salesman for the Granger Implement Co., of that city. He registered at the Warren hotel Tuesday evening, June three, the day of the M. W. A. picnic at this place. He was well dressed and had besides several account books and other papers, a watch and about $1.30. His firm at Fort Dodge was at once notified by wire. The coroners inquest was held Saturday afternoon, but adjourned until Monday. It is thought he had been foully dealt with. The remains were shipped to Fort Dodge, Sunday, for burial. His son-in-law, Ray Campbell, took charge of him.
