Phil Downing, the second son of John H. Downing died very suddenly last Sunday afternoon of heart trouble. He had been ailing all spring but was considered better untio the Fourth when he had a relapse. But he was not thought dangerous until about Sunday afternoon. The sincerest sympathy of the community is extended to the parents sisters and brothers who are left.
(The family of John H. Downing and Lucy Margaret Munday was living in East Orange Tsp in the IA 1885 census. John b. abt 1847 in New York was 38 years, his wife Lucy was 29, the children were - Louise 11, Edward 10, Minnie 9, Philip 7 and Betsy 4. According to the 1900 census the family was in Verona Fairbault MN, and by 1910 they were in San Diego CA.)
