Mrs. Lavina Allen, pioneer of Union County and for a number of years a resident of this city, passed away Sunday at her home in Elk Point. She came to Elk Point with her parents in 1866 in an ox drawn prairie schooner when that town was peopled by just a few families.

Mrs. Allen was born in Iowa in 1855. In 1870 she was united in marriage with Willard Allen, a Civil War veteran, who passed away three years ago. They resided on their homestead near Elk Point until 1895 when they moved to town. Mr. & Mrs. Allen came to Hawarden about twenty years ago and made their home in this city for six or seven years, moving back to Elk Point from here. She is survived by six children, twenty-tree grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Hawarden Independent, April 21, 1932
