Chas. Allen, a pioneer resident of Calliope, passed away Monday, Feb. 1, at Medicine Park, Okla. Mr. Allen suffered a stroke about a year ago and since then had been an invalid. Funeral services were held last Wednesday.

Charley Allen was born in England and came to America when a young man. He located in Calliope in the early 80's. Here he was married to Dot Leggett.

Shortly after coming to Calliope he formed a partnership with D. T. Gearhart in the insurance business. When this partnership was dissolved, Mr. Allen engaged in the men's clothing business and for a number of years he operated a store in Hawarden, which he later sold to F. X. Beck.

In 1909, Mr. Allen and J. E. Gearhart formed a partnership and for two years they operated the Depot hotel. A year or two later Mr. & Mrs. Allen moved to Oklahoma where he engaged in the real estate business. Recently Mr. Allen ran a tourist camp at Medicine Park.

Mr. Allen was a lover of horses. While living here he owned a string of race horses which he ran at the big races.

He is survived by his wife.
