Gaul, Mrs. Cyril (Eylene) - 1922-2000

Eylene Marie Gaul, 77, of Hawarden, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000 at the Hawarden Community Hospital.

Funeral service was at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. Burial was in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Porter Funeral Home, Hawarden, was in charge of arrangements.

Eylene Marie Gaul was born Oct. 22, 1922 at LeMars, Iowa, to Lou and Viola (Widenfeller) Heeren. She graduated from the Hawarden High School in 1940 and received her B.S. degree in education from the University of South Dakota.

She married Cyril Gaul, Aug. 28, 1946 at Elk Point, S.D. They made their home mostly in the Hawarden area, other than times living away due to his construction work. Mr. Gaul died June 15, 1965. Following his death, Mrs. Gaul, was employed at the Council Oaks Grocery Store in Hawarden and from 1978 to 1990 at the Hawarden Post Office.

She enjoyed playing cards, bridge and bingo.

She is survived by three sons, David and wife, Laura of Highlands Ranch, CO.; Michael of Hawarden, and James and wife Mary of Denver, CO; three daughters and their husbands, Diane and Bill Lutgen of Beloit, Kan., Barb and Larry Waterman of Hawarden, and Sue and Scott Doty of Sioux City, IA; a sister, Shirley Dagle of Copperopolis, Calif.; a half-sister, Janice Compher of Baltimore, MD.; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, LeRoy Heeren; and a half-brother, Don Heeren.
