SWANSON, Swan John

We give a brief outline of the life of Swan John Swanson, whose death
occurred at the hospital at Hawarden on Oct. 19 at the age of 66 years, 9
months and 29 days. He was born in Kalmar Län, Sweden, 20 December 1861 and
came to America in 1884, first locating near Kiron where he engaged in
farming. In 1891 he was united in marriage to Mathilda Challgren (Källgren)
and they were the parents of five children, all of whom are still living,
and are Mrs. John Wiksen and Miss. Violet Swanson, Leonard, Elmer and Carl
Swanson all of Hawarden. The wife and mother still survive. Also one sister,
Mrs. Lawrence Anderson (Mathilda) of Lake Lillian, Minnesota. He also has
one brother Charles O. of Hawarden. He was a member of the Baptist church
when living here and his membership was transferred to the Big Springs
church. He moved to a farm southwest of Hawarden in 1901. Mr. Swanson was an
upright man, a friend and neighbor of sterling worth and a kind and loving
husband and father. His death followed an operation, but his condition prior
to the operation was such that no hope was given of a recovery, just
temporary relief.
The funeral was held Monday 22 October at the Big Springs church and was
largely attended. The Sjogrens, S.M., Robert, and Charles and Miss Mabel
Swanson from here attended, as he was a cousin of the Sjogrens.
