Jessie McPherson, 88, of Hawarden, died Thursday, July 9, 1992, at Morningside Manor nursing home at Alcester.

Services were Monday at the Associated church in Hawarden. Rev. Fredrich Mellberg officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery at Hawarden under direction of Porter-Dow funeral home in Hawarden.

Mrs. McPherson was born June 15, 1904, at Ireton, Iowa, the daughter of Hein and Jessie (Talsma) Jager. She married William J. McPherson Dec. 27, 1922, at Sioux City. They lived in Hawarden, where she was a cook for many years at Central Cafe and Mapes nursing home. She later worked at Tilgner's Ben Franklin store. Mr. McPherson died Oct. 6, 1955.

She was a member of the Associated church and the Women's Fellowship and Sewing circle. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Mothers' club, and the Hawarden Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include six sons and their wives, James and Jeanette, Milo and Darlene, Raymond and Barbara and Bruce and Darlene, all of Hawarden, Donald and Vivian of Akron, la., and Frederick and Sharon of Fort Dodge, Ia.; three daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Genevieve) McMillan of Hawarden, Dorothy Harvey of Akron and Mrs. Pierce (Alma) DeJong of Remsen, la.; 39 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Dick, Al and Charlie; four sisters, Emma Tanner, Tina Liston and Dorothy DeRaad, and Gennie Jager, who died as a child; and a great-granddaughter, Amanda McPherson.
