The Rev. Lewis W. Furda, 72, Dubuque, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 1991 at Mercy Health Center, St. Joseph's Unit.

Memorial services were held Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial was at noon Sunday in Nassau Township Cemetery, Alton under direction of the DeWachter-Haudenshield Funeral Home.

The Rev. Furda taught in schools in Conesville and Paullina. He graduated from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. He served in the United Presbyterian Churches in Dubuque, George and Muscatine; Scales Mound, Ill.; and Marshall, Minn. He was dean of admissions and student affairs at the University of Dubuque and served as chaplain at Hillcrest Family Services.

He was born on June 12, 1919 in Sibley, the son of The Rev. Engelhart and Stella (DeVries) Furda. He married Dorothy De Boer on May 27, 1943.

He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in Europe.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Paula) Benner of Dubuque; three sons, Dr. David and his wife Cynthia, and Dr. James and his wife Julie, both of Brainerd, Minn., and Dr. Joel and his wife Kathy of Rhinelander, Wis.; eight grandchildren; a brother, Ellis and his wife Geri of Colorado Springs, CO.; and three sisters, Mrs. Daniel (Esther) Pastoor of Kohler, Wis., Mrs. Kenneth (Mary) Thompson of Longmont, CO, and Mrs. Ted (Evelyn) Meekma of Beaver Dam, Wis.

Memorial may be given to First Presbyterian Church and Bethany Home.
