Sam Fylstra, 83, of Luverne, Minnesota, and formerly of Sioux Center, died Monday, December 30 at the Luverne Community Hospital in Luverne.
Fylstra was born August 6, 1908, in Hull, the son of Ryna and Effie Eppinga Fylstra. He received his education in country school near Hull and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1945. He was united in marriage to Greta Brinkman on March 28, 1946, at Pease, Minnesota. Fylstra was employed with Kooiker Manufacturing in Hull. He moved to Luverne in 1989, and has been a resident of the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Home in Luverne for the past year. He was a member of the Hull American Legion.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Van Maanen of Luverne and Alvora Poor of Port Huron, Michigan; one granddaughter; four sisters, Rena DeBoer of Milaca, Minnesota, Kate Fylstra of Sheldon, Effie Ver Meer of Sheldon and Anna Kruizenga of Sioux Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1979, three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were Friday, January 2, at 11 A.M., at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. The Rev. Mark De Witt officiated. Interment was with full military honors in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.
