Koob, Joseph J. 1916 - 1992

Joseph J. Koob, 75, of Hawarden, died unexpectedly Saturday (Jan. 25, 1992), at his residence.

Services were Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hawarden. Rev. Edmond Adams officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery under direction of Porter- Dow funeral home in Hawarden.

Mr. Koob was born June 7, 1916, at Hawarden, the son of John and Susan (Redding) Koob. He graduated from Hawarden high school in 1935, and served in the army in the European Theater during World War II. He married Alma Frazier Nov. 9, 1942, at Hawarden. He was owner/operator of Model Dry Cleaners in Hawarden, and had
been in the dry cleaning business for 40 years. He was a longtime Little League baseball coach and was known as the "Candy Man" in Hawarden. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church, the Hawarden Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, and Hawarden's Eagles.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Douglas and Ruth of Hawarden, Richard and Nancy of Manly, la., and Clark and Pam of Sioux Falls; a daughter, Mary Koob of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Margaret Ristow, of Hawarden; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Emil, Bernie and Bob, and by Joseph, an infant.

Memorials may be directed to the new West Sioux high school baseball field.
