Raymond W. Gabel, 77, of Hawarden, died Saturday, June 25, at Morningside Manor Nursing Home in Alcester, South Dakota.

Services were at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, June 28, at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester with the Rev. Charles Peterson officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Gabel was born July 14, 1910, near Akron. He married Minnie F. Wilken November 22, 1933, at rural Akron. The couple made their home in the Akron area until moving to a farm near Alcester in 1946. In 1974, he retired from farming and they moved to Hawarden. His wife died August 1, 1987.

He was a longtime member of Nathanael Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three sons, Levern of Merrimack, New Hampshire; Wendell of Alcester and Melvin of Beresford, South Dakota; a daughter, Elaine Schnose of Hartford, South Dakota; two sisters, Violet Sampson of Pleasantville and Faye Woods of Corvallis, Oregon; a half-sister, Lavon Rolfs of Utica, South Dakota; three half-brothers, Donald of Hawarden, Eldon and Virgil of Akron; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
