Ester Wohlenberg, 86, of Hawarden died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1992, at Morningside Manor Nursing Home in Alcester, S.D.
A memorial sevice was held Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden with Rev. Paul Hansem officiating. Her body has been donated to the University of South Dakota Medical School in Vermillion, S.D. Porter-Dow funeral home of Hawarden was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wohlenberg was born July 31, 1906, on a farm near Alcester. She attended rural school, high school, and completed nurse's training at Mounds and Midway hospital in St. Paul, Minn., in 1927. She then took a postgraduate obstetrics course at Cast Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio. She married Hugh Wohlenberg Nov. 28, 1929. In 1935, the couple moved to Hawarden and established the Time Shop. He preceded her in death. She worked at various nursing positions and in 1964, was hired by Morningside Manor in Alester to set up and administer the residential nursing porgram. She retired in 1976.
Survivors include two daughters, Kristi Lind of Vancouver, B.C., and Linde Tandy of Moorhead, Minn.; a sister, Anna Lind of Alcester; and two grandchildren, John Tandy of Minneapolis and Ann Marie Tandy of Eau Claire, Wis.
She was also preceded in death by a son Barlow.
