Edna Dawson, 94, of Hawarden died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1992, at the Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake.

Services were held Thursday at the Porter-Dow Funeral home in Hawarden with Rev. Fredrich Mellberg officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden.

Mrs. Dawson, the former Edna Herter, was born June 11, 1898 in Hawarden, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Herter. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1916. She taught in rural schools and was a bookkeeper at Schoeneman Lumber Co. for five years. She married Harry Dawson June 27, 1923, in Hawarden. The couple farmed in Union county, S.D., and retired to Hawarden in February 1963. He died Nov. 3, 1965. Mrs. Dawson was a member of the Associated church, Mutual Improvement club, PEO, and the rural Friendly neighbor club. She was a 50-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lila Edminister.
