Everett L. Franken, 86, of Sioux Center died Monday, July 2, at the Mercy Medical Center of Sioux City. Funeral services were Friday at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with the Rev. Roger Voskuil and the Rev. Joel Bensema officiating. Interment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Franken was born to Art and Hermina (Rozeboom) Franken on February 5, 1921, in rural Sioux Center. He attended country school near the family home. At a young age he began farming with his dad. On December 6, 1946, he married Gertrude Vis in Hull. To this union two children were born, Arlin and Harvella.

He continued farming until the loss of his son Arlin in the Vietnam War in 1969. He then began a 34-year career at Jesco Electrical Supplies in Sioux Center. He retired at the age of 82. In 1980, he moved off the farm and into Sioux Center. He and his wife became residents of Crown Pointe independent living in January of 2005.

He was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center and served as a deacon. He loved riding horses in his younger days and still enjoyed playing cards with his friends. He loved spending time with his family, especially the visits from his grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gertrude of Sioux Center; daughter and son-in-law, Harvella and Roger Bahrenfuss of Sioux Center; two grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and Gerrit R. Hulstein and Arlene and Joel Bensema, both of Sioux Center; brother and sister-in-law, John A. and Lorene Franken of Sioux Center; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Arlin Dale Franken; twin sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Henry Van Roekel; sister-in-law, Darlene Franken; infant brother, Evert; infant sister, Johanna and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
