William "Bill" Hartman, 75, of Hawarden, longtime area auctioneer, died suddenly Saturday, Dec. 5, 1992 at the Hawarden Community hospital.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Loren Vogler officiating. Soloist was Leonard Bidne and Julie Hummel, organist. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery under the direction of the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Pallbearers were Ronald Hartman, Gerald Hartman, Danny Kruse, Bernard Hendricks, Ronald Smith and Daryl Smith. Honorary bearers were Kenneth Hultquist, Robert Wendel, Dennis Eisma, Bernard Schiefen, John Anderberg, and Lawrence Ruhland.
Mr. Hartman was born July 1, 1916, in Plymouth county, Iowa, the son of Bernhard and Trientje (Saathoff) Hartman. He attended rural school in Plymouth county and attended the Reisch Auctioneering School in Austin, Minn, in 1939. He married Merva Rozell Oct. 28, 1939, in South Sioux City. The couple lived in Chatsworth until 1950, when, they moved to a farm south of Hawarden, where he farmed and was an auctioneer. They retired and moved into Hawarden in 1980.
Survivors include his wife, Merva of Hawarden; two sons and their wives, Dale and Pat Hartman of New Ulm, Minn., and Allen and Amy Hartman of Rochester, Minn.; two daughters and their husbands, Bev and Daryl Schlumbohm of Ireton and Linda and Dennis Miller of West Lafayette, Ind.,; one brother, George of Hawarden; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Parents; three brothers, Hye, John And Alflred; and four sisters, Tracy Hendricks, Minnie Jacobs, Tina Helmrichs, and Bernadine Kruse.
