Mrs. Gerrit A. Franken passed away very suddenly Thursday evening, Oct. 5, after suffering a heart attack. Although she had been very ill some time ago, and had also recently submitted to a major operation, she had been quite well the last few weeks.

She was born on a farm near Perkins on Feb. 7, 1895. On March 13, 1918 she was united in marriage to Gerrit A. Franken and they moved to a farm near Sioux Center where they lived for 30 years. About two years ago they moved into town.

She is now survived by her husband and two sisters, Annie (Mrs. Ben Mulder) of Rock Valley, and Henrietta (Mrs. Jake Duistermars) of Sioux Center and one brother Wm. Brantsen also of Sioux Center.

A brother Fred Brantsen and a sister Gertie (Mrs. Gerrit Kosters) preceded her in death. Also her mother who died in 1924 and her father who died in 1927.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at the home and at the First Christian Ref. Church. Rev. Haan officiated. Burial took place at the local cemetery and pall bearers were John W. Brantsen, John F. Brantsen, Harvey Jacobsma, John Mulder, John Kosters and John De Zeeuw.

From the Sioux County Capital, Oct. 12, 1950:

A heart attack proved fatal for Mrs. Gerrit A. Franken, 55, of Sioux Center who passed away on Thursday evening Oct. 5. Mrs. Franken had submitted to a major operation at Sioux City some time ago which proved to be cancer. She was under treatment and she and her husband had gone to Sioux City in the afternoon where she had another treatment. Upon coming home she complained of not feeling well, and passed away just a few moments later.

[Omitted redundant information on funeral services and survivors.] A brother, Fred Brantsen preceded her in death a few years ago and a sister, Mrs. Gerrit Kosters of Orange City, who died in an auto accident only a few weeks ago.
