Mrs. Alfred Franken, 71, of Carmel, died at the North Country Hospital in Bemidji, Minn., on Sunday, July 21. Services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Carmel Reformed Church. The Rev. Virgil Dykstra will officiate. Burial will be in the Carmel Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Mrs. Franken, the former Henrietta Overman, was born January 23, 1914, at Sibley, Iowa. She attended rural school in the Carmel area. She married Alfred Franken December 30, 1932, in Carmel. After their marriage they lived in Carmel.

Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Mrs. Herb (Alice) Remmerde and Mrs. Frieda Bartels of Rock Valley, Mrs. Roger (Ardene) De Haan of Orange City, and Mrs. Butch (Mary Ann) Van Veldhuizen of Turner, Ore.; one son, Alvin of Sioux Center; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marion Overman of Hull and Tunis Overman of Rock Rapids; three sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Rena) Bleeker of Sioux Center, Mrs. Bill (Gertrude) Spyksma of Auburn, Wash., and Mrs. Art (Dena) Wilderman of Rock Rapids.

A brief news note in the Sioux County Capital, July 18, 1985, states that Mrs. Alfred Franken suffered a serious heart attack the past week while she and her husband were on a fishing trip to northern Minnesota and she is hospitalized in Bemidji, Minn.
