RITES ARE HELD TUESDAY FOR J. W. EPPINK

Funeral services were held at the First Reformed church, Sioux Center, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 14, for John W. Eppink, 88 retired farmer and life-long resident of this vicinity, who passed away Saturday [Dec. 11] at the Sioux Center Community hospital.

Services were conducted by the Rev. John Roggen and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral home. A brief service, attended by members of the immediate family, was held at the Vander Ploeg Funeral chapel preceding the service at the church.

Mr. Eppink was born February 6, 1877, on a farm near Orange City, and at the age of one moved with his parents to a farm west of Sioux Center which remained his home until his retirement in 1949, at which time he moved into Sioux Center.

He was married to Minnie Beyer of Hull on February 24, 1904. Five daughters and two sons were born to this union, all of whom survive. They were Wilemina of Sioux Center, Henrietta of East Lansing, Mich., Anna of Waterloo, Iowa, John H. of Grand Rapids, Mich., Alice of Washington, D.C., Lydia (Mrs. Neal Mol) of Overisel, Mich., and Herman of Washington, Ill.

In addition to his widow, of Sioux Center, other survivors include five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. The two brothers and two of the sisters died in infancy. One sister, Anna, passed away in 1905, and another, Mrs. D. A. Doornink, in 1963.

Mr. Eppink was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center and had served as a deacon, and as church treasurer for about 17 years.

Pallbearers were Herman Eppink, John Eppink, Rev. Neal Mol, Kenneth Mol, Gerrit Doornink, Dick Doornink.
