Alice J. Eppink, October 21, 1913-June 11, 1998

Alice Jeanette Eppink, 84, died Thursday, June 11, at the Pinewood Christian Retirement Home in Holland, Michigan. Services will be at First Reformed Church, Sioux Center, Wednesday, June 17, at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Mark De Witt officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Miss Eppink was born October 21, 1913, at Sioux Center to John and Minnie (Beyer) Eppink. She attended rural school at West Branch #2 and Sioux Center High School, graduating in 1931. She attended Western Union College in Le Mars and then taught in Shadynook School and Welcome #7 for six years. During these years she also was one of First Reformed Church church organists. She especially enjoyed accompanying the singing of the Dueth Psalms. She graduated from Northwestern Junior College in Orange City and in 1942 from Central College at Pella. She graduated from the University of Denver Library School in 1943. She served on library staffs in Detroit, Michigan; Portland, Oregon; and San Francisco, California; and as the librarian at the U.S. Air Force base at Phalsbourg, France. Upon return to the States, she earned a master's degree in library science at Rutgers University and then served as head librarian at the Center for Applied Linguistics in Washington, D.C., until she retired in 1979. She continued living in Washington, D.C., until the fall of 1995. After that she made her home with family in Sioux Center and Fennville, Michigan.

Survivors include her sisters and brothers, Wilemina Eppink and Henrietta Eppink of Sioux Center, Lydia and the Rev. Neal Mol of Fennville, and Herman and his wife Beth Eppink of Washington, Illinois; and nieces and nephews.
