DEATH CALLS MRS. E. BARNUM
PASSED AWAY WEDNESDAY AT HAWARDEN HOSPITAL
Was 64 Years of Age and Had Lived in This City 31 Years--Leaves Husband and Six Children

Mrs. Ell Barnum, a resident of this city for 31 years, passed away at the Hawarden hospital at 1:15 Wednesday afternoon from pneumonia. Mrs. Barnum was removed to the hospital Sunday when she suffered an attack of pleurisy and later pneumonia developed. She had suffered two previous attacks of pneumonia and was unable to combat with the ravages of the disease this time.

Funeral services will be held at the Ross Funeral Home at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon and at the Methodist church at 2:30 with Rev. Robt. H. Forrester, the pastor, in charge.

Sarah Cooper was born Nov. 10, 1866, at Mount Ida, Wis., and passed away in Hawarden Nov. 5, 1930, lacking but a few days of being 64 years of age. She moved to South Dakota when a child with her parents and settled on the Brule bottom in Union county. The family returned to Wisconsin three years later because of the devastation caused by the grasshoppers in this section at that time. In November, 1883, she was united in marriage with Ell Barnum at Mount Ida and in 1899 the family came to Hawarden, locating in the eastern part of the city. She made her home continuously in this city since that time. In 1913 she moved to the southwest part of town. Mrs. Barnum united with the Free Methodist church while she still resided in Wisconsin but after coming to Hawarden she transferred her membership to the Methodist church in this city.

She is survived by her husband and six children, William Barnum, Mrs. Frank Hout and Eldon Barnum of Hawarden; Mrs. Wm. Yaeger of Minneapolis; Mrs. H. M. Everett of Kirkland, Wash.; and Mrs. Fred Bedard of LeMars. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. George Luckey of Sioux City and Mrs. Grace Sloggett of Osmond, Neb.; and one brother, Thomas Cooper of Page, Neb.; and 20 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mrs. Barnum was a kind and faithful wife and mother. She suffered many privations during her early life in Hawarden but no sacrifice was too great for her to make for the welfare of her family. She was a kindly neighbor and friend and will be missed by many outside of the family circle.
