Garvis Z. Barr, 80, of Hawarden, died Tuesday, December 1, 1987, in a care center in Hawarden. Services were 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 4, in the Dow Funeral Home with the Rev. Harley Betzolt officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Barr was born November 8, 1907, in Akron. He worked for many years at Dirk's Hardware. On October 2, 1944, he married Goldie Barr in Albert Lea, MN. The couple lived in the Waterloo area about three years and returned to Hawarden. In 1968, they moved to Mountain Home, AR, and returned to Hawarden in 1981. Mr. Barr had been a resident of Hillcrest Care Center since August 1986.

Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Bruce, of Sioux City and DeZelle, of Kenosha, WI; three step-daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Maurine) DeJager, of Hawarden, Betty Parks, of Rock Rapids, and Mrs. Earl (Francis) Newman of Mountain Home; a step-son, Robert Barr of Knoxville; nine stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild.
