Tom Gaalswyk, age 75, of Rock Valley, died Sunday, December 7, 1997 at the McKennan Hospital at Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service was Wednesday at the First Christian Reformed Church at Rock Valley. Burial was at the Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley. Rev. C. Eric Fennema officiated. Visitation was Tuesday at the Porter Funeral Home at Rock Valley.

Tom was born May 12, 1922, at Rock Valley, IA, the son of Arie and Bertha (Verdoorn) Gaalswyk. He married Frieda Kooima on October 26, 1944 at Rock Valley. Together they farmed east of Rock Valley and later near Rock Rapids, IA, before farming near Alvord, IA. They moved to Rock Valley in July of 1997.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Frieda; one daughter and her husband, Deanna and Marvin Faber of Alvord, IA; two brothers and their wives, Joe and Marge Gaalswyk, Alvin and Janet Gaalswyk, all of Rock Valley; two sisters, Mary Huyser of Inwood, IA, Elsie and her husband Elmer Kooima of Rock Valley; five grandsons, Jim and his wife Melinda, Steve and his wife Val, Jason and his wife Kari, Brian, and Mark Faber; three great-grandchildren, Collin and Justin Faber, Krista Faber.
