Obituary: Hawarden, Iowa- Mary Anne "Marian" Hodoway, 89, of Hawarden, died Sunday, August 8, 2010 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawarden with Father Roger Linnan officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. It will continue with visitation with the family from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Mary Anne Dier was born November 9, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois. She married Robert Hodoway March 6, 1943 in Chicago and moved to the Hodoway farm near Hawarden, Iowa after Bob was honorably discharged from the US Navy.
She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, St. Mary’s Guild, Friendly Neighbors, Krafty Kats, Buncombe Township Clerk, and had taught catechism for many years.
Marian is survived by her husband Bob of 67 years; daughters, Kathy and Ron Madsen of Volin, South Dakota and Patricia Wegner of Gilbert, Arizona; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Anna Dier; and 3 brothers, Fred, William, and Henry.
