Obituary for Bette Marienau
On March 11, 2010, our beloved Mother joined our Lord and the love of her life, Wayne, in heaven. On March 7 she celebrated her 89th birthday with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all in attendance to wish her a happy birthday and to say good-bye. Bette was born on March 7, 1921 in Hawarden Iowa, the daughter of Benton and Minnie (Rouwen) Boyer. She graduated from Hawarden High and then attended Business College in Sioux City. She was united in marriage on August 19, 1942 to Wayne Marienau. In 1998 they celebrated 56 years of marriage. In 1953 the family moved to Spokane, Washington. She worked for many years at the Spokesman-Review and remained in contact with many of her co-workers over the years. She was a loving wife and mother and her family was the center of her life. She will be remembered by all who knew her a feisty little lady. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne and her parents. She is survived by daughters Margo Mulberry and Marlene Phillips and husband, Paul; son Terry Marienau and wife, Pauline; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; her brother Benton Boyer of Hawarden, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. Visitation for Bette will be Wednesday, March 17, 2010 from 10 AM to 7 PM at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. A Vigil Service will be held Wednesday, March 17th at 7 PM, also at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Thursday, March 18th at St. Charles Catholic Church, 4515 N. Alberta, Spokane, WA. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
