ARIE VAN GROUW
Born: July 14, 1908: Boyden, IA.
Passed Away: May 30, 1986; Rochester, MN.
Age: 77, 10 months, 16 days.
Service: Monday; June 2, 1986; 1:30 p.m.
Calvary Christian Reformed Church, Orange City, IA.
Interment; West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City, IA
Arrangements: Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home: Orange City, IA.
Arie was the son of Oscar Van Grouw and Tena (Jongsma) Van Grouw.
On July 25, 1933, he married Ada VandeVegte at Rock Valley.
They lived in Rock Valley for a short time and then moved to Orange City, where Arie was manager of the V.C. Kooiman Grocery Store. He later operated Van’s Hardware. In 1957 he became a representative for Blue Cross and Blue Shield in extreme northwest Iowa, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory as an elder and taught Sunday School classes. He was a member of the boards of directors of the Orange City Christian School and Western Christian High School in Hull. He was a member of the committee which established Dordt College in Sioux Center. For many years, he was the secretary of the Western League of Reformed Men’s Society. He was an active member of the World Home Bible League, helping to place Bibles in hotels and motels.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Eugene of Orange City; and Kenneth of LeMars; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sister, Rena, of Orange City; brother, Hessel, of Rock Valley; and half-sister, Grace Dekker, of Orange City.
He was preceded in death by a great-grandson.
