Mrs. Mina Kass, 93, of Alton passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, after a brief illness.

"Mina," who was baptized Mary Wilhelmina, was born Jan. 16, 1892, on a farm near Granville, the daughter of Henry Sauer and Mary Mulvaney Sauer. On Nov. 24, 1919, she married Odilo Nicholas Kass at Alton. They lived in Chicago, Ill., Charleston, W.Va., and Peterson and Jefferson, Iowa. Except for a short time in Omaha, Neb., in the 1930's, they lived in Alton since 1927. On Aug. 11, 1975, Mr. Kass passed away at Chicago. Mrs. Kass became a resident of the Happy Siesta Retirement Home in Remsen on Jan. 1, 1979.

For many years Mrs. Kass was a self-employed seamstress. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton and its Rosary Society. She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Catholic Daughters of America, and the Sewing Club.

Survivors include her two sons, Don, of Sioux City and James of Minneapolis, Minn.; her daughter, Mrs. Ray (Marianne) Tritz of Tucson, Ariz., 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. J. T. (Blanche) Even of Alton. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 26, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. The Rev. Fr. David Hogan officiated. Interment followed at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City.
