From the Alton Democrat of Mar 25, 1893 Orange City news.
Died, at his home in this city, Mr. J. Haarsma aged 74. Funeral was held last Wednesday.
(Both the Alton Democrat and the Sioux county Herald reported that it was J. Haarsma but evidence was found that it was Pieter Haarsms father of Jan/John Haarsma that died. In the Sioux County Cemetery Index lists P. P. (Pieter Pieters Haarsma) died 18 Mar 1893 age 77 buried in West Lawn cemetery. In the 1885 census he was living with his daughter's family presumably and with his son Jan born 14 Aug 1858. Pieter was married twice in the Netherlands first to Grietje VanderPloeg in 1843 and then to Pietje Schat in 1857. Pieter was born 1819 in St. Annaparockie Friesland, Netherlands to Pieter Pieters Haarsma and Rikje Hendriks Waldijk.)
