Henry was born March 9, 1907, at Sioux Center, the son of William and Dirkje (Bleyenberg) Van Der Weide. He was raised at Sioux Center.
On November 28, 1929, he married Pearl Westra at Sioux Center. They made their home at Orange City, where he was employed at Silent Sioux and also operated a dairy farm. They later farmed between Orange City and Alton and then moved to a farm south of Orange City, where they have since resided. For the last several years, Henry and Pearl have wintered in Arizona.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife: two sons and their wives, Don and Eunice and the Rev. Stanley and Marilyn, all of Orange City; two daughters, Sandra and her husband, Carter Hennessey, of Fremont, California; and Lee Bowles and her friend, Bob Mason, of Wharton, New Jersey; six grandchildren, Debbie Buss, Tim, Dan, Nathan, and Steve Van Der Weide, and Roger Hennessey; five great-grandchildren, Sarah and Adam Buss, and Michael, Drew, and Noah Van Der Weide; and three sisters, Dena De Vos, Dora Bleeker, and Liz De Vos, all of Sioux Center.
Jacob Van Eizenga, who passed away this past October, made his home with Henry and Pearl for 21 years.
Henry was preceded in death by four brothers, Arie, John, Peter, and Teunis; and a sister, Hattie Rozeboom.
