Mrs. A. Van der Stoep died suddenly at three o'clock Wednesday morning, June 26th. Mrs. Van der Stoep had been suffering from heart trouble for several years, but her death came unexpectedly. The deceased was born at Zuid Holland in the Netherlands July 5th, 1837. She came to this country with her husband, J. Veldhuizen, and settled at South Holland, Ill., where they lived for several years. Mr. and Mrs. Veldhuizen came to Sioux county in the early days and lived for years at their farm southeast of town. Some sixteen years ago Mr. Veldhuizen was killed by a stroke of lightning. The death of Mrs. Van de Stoep will be felt a severe loss to her friends, but especially to her aged husband, A. Van de Stoep to whom she was united in marriage in 1903, and to her surviving children: Mrs. P. De Zeeuw of Middleburg, Mrs. F. Van der Maaten of Orange City, Mrs. S. Van den Bosch of Rock Valley, Mrs. Joe Heemstra of Sibley, Mrs. I. Herwynen of this city, Wm. Veldhuizen of Newkirk, and Henry Veldhuizen of Boyden. The funeral will be held at the First Reformed church Friday afternoon.

A similar obituary in the Alton Democrat (June 29, 1907) adds that thirteen children were born to her, of whom six have died; that she also leaves 38 grandchildren; and places William Veldhuizen in New York.

Andrew (Andries) Van der Stoep married the widow Jantje Veldhuizen on November 12, 1902 (Sioux County Herald, Nov. 12, 1902, and other newspapers).
