Arthur Ronald was the son of Henry and Alice (Juffer) Hulstein. He was raised on a farm between Orange City and Sioux Center, graduating from the Sioux Center High School.

On August 18, 1948, he married Harriet Ethel De Groot at Sioux Center. They lived at Sioux Center, Middleburg, and Maurice, where they operated A & H Grocery. In 1973, they moved to Orange City. For 25 years, he represented the National Manufacturing Company of Sterling, Illinois. In semi-retirement, he was employed at Siouxland Real Estate in Orange City, IA.

"Art" was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church, where he had served on the consistory as an elder and was currently teaching Men’s Life. He was also a member of the Gideons and the Kiwanis and was an avid golfer. For many years, he served as a lay minister in area churches.
Survivors include his wife: two daughters and their husbands, Lynn and Quentin Hatfield of Orange City; and Lorna and Bob Leavitt of Marcus; five grandchildren, Tonya Lynn Hatfield, Sean Arthur HatfIeld, Jessica Anne Leavitt, Clay Robert Leavitt, and Grant Thomas Leavitt; two brothers and their wives, Gerrit Robert and Louise Hulstein and Rodney and Sylvia Hulstein, all of Sioux Center, a sister and her husband, Arthea and Ken Raak, of Worthington, MN; and nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
