Gerrit Maassen, 86, of Rock Valley died Monday [Feb. 18?] in a hospital in Rock Valley.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. The Rev. A. M. Den Boer officiated. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.

Mr. Maassen was born March 2, 1898, at Ada, The Netherlands. He came to the United States and to Pella in 1907 where he lived for a few years. He later moved to a farm near Rock Valley. He married Winnie Hup Feb. 28, 1928 in Maurice. They farmed near Rock Valley until 1956 when they moved into town. She died April 29, 1976 and he moved into Valley Manor Nursing Home in 1981.

Survivors include one son, Gerrit of Jenison, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. Al (Reva) Van Den Berg of Rock Valley and Mrs. Gary (JoAnn) Van Beck of Inwood; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Van Ginkel and Mrs. Jennie Van Voorst, both of Rock Valley; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Note that he appears to be the twin brother of Maas Maassen, who died March 3, 1984.
