Mrs. Mary A. Nash, for more then twenty-five years a resident of Hawarden, passed away at 11:45 last Thursday morning [March 29] in a hospital at Portland, Ore., where she had been receiving treatment for a few weeks. News of her death came in a letter from her brother, J. M. Lynn of Tacoma, Wash., also a former well known Hawarden resident, but no particulars were given. Mr. Lynn is accompanying the remains to Hawarden and is expected to arrive here at 8:10 Friday morning. It is not expected that funeral services will be held here inasmuch as services were held in Portland Saturday morning, but this will not be known definitely until Mr. Lynn's arrival. Interment will be made in Grace Hill cemetery and members of the Eastern Star order will have charge of the services at the grave.

Mrs. Nash came to Calliope with her husband, the late J. E. Nash, before the town of Hawarden was started and was widely known among the older residents of this community. During her life here she was an active worker in the Congregational church and was prominent in the church and social affairs of the community. She was a lady of splendid Christian character and her death will be widely mourned. She left here with her husband in 1908 and they located in Oregon, living part of the time in Portland and part of the time at Wilbur, Ore. Mr. Nash died in 1917 and is buried in the cemetery here where their children are also buried.
