Burdette Heiman was born September 27, 1926 in Hawarden, Iowa to Earl & Marie (Busch) Heiman. He was pronounced dead at the Hawarden Community Hospital on July 3, 2010 at the age of 83 years, nine months and six days.

Burdette was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester, SD and was a life member of Peace Church. He graduated from Alcester High School in 1944. He farmed with his dad until he married Margaret (Holtkamp) Heiman on March 9th, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hawarden, IA. The couple resided in Hawarden, IA where Burdette worked at Tones Service Station until 1947 at which time they moved to a farm near Alcester, SD.

Farming was the passion of his life and he continued to farm until his health forced him to retire. In 2007 Burdette moved into the Bee Hive Homes Assisted Living facility in Hawarden, IA. He still made a daily trip out to the farm to "check on things".

Burdette is survived by his two daughters, LaDonna (Greg) Way of Tripp, SD and LaDel Heiman of Hawarden, IA; two granddaughters, Noel (Brian) Hersom of Spencer, IA and Charity Dossett of Sioux Falls, SD; one sister Beverly (Daryl) Fickbohm of Alcester, SD; and two brothers, Vergene (Corinne) Heiman of Alcester, SD and Quinten Heiman along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Heiman in 2008; twin daughters, Marlys and Marlene; and his parents, Earl and Marie Heiman.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 2PM at Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester, SD with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester with the family present from 6-8PM and a prayer service at 7PM. The family requests memorials to Sioux Falls Lutheran School.
