Calvary Christian Reformed Church, Orange City, Iowa

Ellen Joyce was the daughter of William and Tillie (Bloemendaal) Van Steenwyk. She was raised on the family farm in the Orange City-Alton area, where she attended country school through the eighth grade.
On June 14, 1943, she married George Vogel at her parents’ home. During World War II, George and Joyce lived in California. Since 1946, they have made their home in Orange City. In later years, they enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona.
She was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where she was active in the Harmony Circle.
Her hands were busy helping others. For many years, she and George helped with work projects for the C.R.W.R.C. Joyce enjoyed giving her knitted projects to family and friends. She also enjoyed entertaining others in her home and was a faithful witness to Christ, especially in her illness.
Survivors include her husband; five children and their spouses, Alan and Idelle Vogel of Orange City; Robin and Duane Haack of Hospers; Curtis and Becky Vogel of Orange City; Lance and Judi Vogel of Des Moines; and Loren and Linda Vogel of Orange City; eleven grandchildren, Chad Vogel and his wife Jodi; Eric Vogel; Jennifer, Kyle, and Nathan Haack; and Kari, April, Nicholas, Seth, Micah, and Lorilyn Vogel; two sisters and their husbands, June and Willard Van Peursem of Orange City; and Rita and Harris Van Oort of Omaha, Nebraska; a sister-in-law, Etta Van Steenwyk of Orange City; and her father-in-law, Andrew Vogel, of Orange City.
In addition to her parents and mother-in-law, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Willard and Ernest Van Steenwyk; and a sister-in-law.
