The funeral of Mr. Theis was held at the Catholic chruch, and the bady laid in its last resting place. He had resided here nearly a quarter of a century and was esteemed by all who knew him for his honest and upright principles. The funeral was one of the largest ever held here. Several gorwn up sons and daughters are left to mourn the departure of a kind father to that better and happier land. The Democrat sympathizes with them in their sorrow.
( in the first notice of his death in the Alton Demorat of Oct 22, 1892 his name was given as John Theis. However, upon investigation it was learned that this was Henry Theis. From a reliable source posted on ancestry.com - Henry Theis born 22 Aug 1822 Kehlen, Capelien, Luzembourg, died 19 Oct 1892 in Dubuque, IA but was buried in the St. Anthony's church cemetery at Hospers, IA. Henry's wife was Anna Maria Scheltgen 1823-1876. He had children - Johann, Marquerite, Maria, Jacob, Cahterine , John P. and Peter.)
