Glenn Irwin Luymes was born at Alton on October 29, 1923, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Issac Luymes.

He was graduated from the Orange City high school in 1941 and then attended Northwestern Junior college. Upon graduation from Northwestern, he enlisted in the United States Navy in June, 1943, and served until June, 1946. He was discharged as a Lieutenant Junior Grade.

He was united in marriage on May 1, 1945, to Agnes De Wit, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neil De Wit of Sioux Center.

Dr. Luymes attended Iowa State college and graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine in June, 1950. He practiced his professio in Galva, Ill., and entered into partnership with Dr. A. C. Gathmann in January, 1951. They continued in partnership until the death of Dr. Luymes.

Dr. Luymes was a member of the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association and the Mississippi Valley Veterinary Medical Association. He was on the official board of the First Methodist church of Galva, Ill., serving as chairman of the finance committee. Survivors include his wife, Agnes, and four children: Keith, 7; Nancy, 6; Lynn, 3; and Carol, 2; his mother, Mrs. Jeane Luymes of Orange City; one brother, Luverne Leslie Luymes of Fargo, N.Dak.; his grandmother, Mrs. Johanna Ver Steeg of Orange City; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his father and infant brother.

Dr. Luymes died almost instantly as the result of a brain concussion and chest injuries in a headon collision. The Galva police chief said the road was slushy, but not icy, and the point of impact was a "blind" spot. The driver of the other car was a woman who was hospitalized with multiple injuries. Her two daughters were injured, but not seriously. Dr. Luymes was alone at the time of the crash.

Dr. and Mrs. A. C. Gathmann of Galva, Ill., were among the many persons here to attend the funeral Monday.
