Mrs. Grace Top, age 87, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2010, at the Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility.
There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, July 7, at 2:00pm, at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. David Heilman and the Rev. Paul Bakker will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Tuesday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Sarah Grace was born on April 12, 1923, in Rock Valley, the daughter of Dirk and Arigje (Van Kekerix) Rozeboom. She was raised in Sioux Center.
On November 29, 1945, she married Dick Top in Orange City. After a short time in Orange City, they made their home in California until 1956, when they returned to northwest Iowa. There she was a homemaker and did house cleaning for others. Dick passed away on November 6, 1986, in Sioux City, after over forty years of marriage.
Mrs. Top remained in her own home until 2003, when she moved to the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. In December of 2005, she transferred to the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon. Since March 9, 2006, she has lived at the Long Term Care Facility.
She was a faithful member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where she was active in Coffee Break. She also participated in Dinner Date. She did much babysitting, especially in the church nursery, and she enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include six children, Elwin Top, and his wife, Barbara, of Orange City; Marlo Top, of Orange City; Terry Top, of Luton; Gladys, and her husband, Jack Hutson, of Waxhaw, North Carolina; Richard Top, of Mobile, Alabama; and Martin Top, and his wife, Paula, of Alton; ten grandchildren, Julie, and her husband, Steve Timm; Kelly, and her husband, Bryan Van Gelder; Jeremiah Top, and his wife, Carrie; Sheila Huisman; Benjamin Huisman; Jake Top, and his wife, Michelle; T. J. Top; Christy McClure; Jonathan Wohlert; and Jamilyn Top; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Delbert Top, and a sister, Dena Rozeboom.
