Alvin Hoekstra

A1vin John Hoekstra, 73, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, June 16, at Wynwood of Kenosha.

Funeral were Monday at 10 a.m. at the Racine Christian Reformed Church. Interment was at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.

Hoekstra was born May 30, 1937, to the late Cornelius and Henrietta G. (Elenbaas) Hoekstra in Orange City. He attended Christian schools of Orange City and graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull. He attended Dordt College in Sioux Center and Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a MA degree. On August 15, 1961, he married Virginia R. Engbers at First Christian Reformed Church in Pella. He taught at Ripon Christian High School in Ripon, California, Western Christian High School in Hull, and Zion Benton Township High School in Zion, Illinois, for many years. He then worked for CRST Trucking in Cedar Rapids for 10 years and for Kix-Kutzler in Kenosha for five years.

He was a member of Racine Christian Reformed Church and taught Sunday school. He was also a deacon and was active in the Men’s Bible Study. He was a member of the Painters Union and the Teachers Union.

He is survived by his loving wife Virginia of Kenosha; his children, Ryan James (Kim Veenstra) Hoekstra of Pella, Rachelle Joy (Michael) Apol of Dayton, Ohio, Roderick J.

Hoekstra of Seattle, Washington, and Renee JoLynn Hoekstra of Boston,
Massachusetts; his siblings Joan (James) Horstman of Sioux Center, Marge (Arnold)

Van Gelder of Orange City, Gladys (Harold) Hoekstra of Orange City and Karen

(Dennis) Vis of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Corwin; and a granddaughter.
