Funeral services for John Arend Luchtenburg of Leota, Minn., were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31 at Bethel Reformed Church in Leota, Minn., with Rev. Verlyn Boone officiating. Interment was at the Leota Cemetery.
John Luchtenburg was born at Orange City on Feb. 23, 1908 to Henry and Gerridina Van Wechel Luchtenburg. On Jan. 16, 1936 he married Sadie Van Peursem near Orange City where they farmed until 1946, at which time they moved to their farm near Edgerton. They resided there until their retirement in Leota six years ago.
To their union was born two sons, H. Paul of Edgerton; Rodney of Council Bluffs; and two daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Wilbur Zimmer) of Kerkhoven, Minn., and Helen (Mrs. John Kreun) of Williamsburg.
Mr. Luchtenburg passed away Oct. 28 at the Pipestone Medical Center. Survivors include his four children, 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one step-sister, Jessie Blake of Wahiawa, Oahu, Hawaii; Dianne Verdoorn of Ashton; Blanche Zevenbergen of Baldwin, Wis.; Christine Vander Aarde, Willimina Fedders and Ellen Bonnecroy, all of Orange City.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sadie and two brothers and one infant sister.
