Mrs. Burdean Huitink, age 96, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2010, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
There will be a funeral service on Thursday, July 1, at 10:00 am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Dr. Perry De Groot will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 5:00 pm on Wednesday, with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Burdean Arabella was born on October 27, 1913, in rural Orange City, the daughter of John J. and Johanna (Mouw) Kleinhesselink. She was raised on a farm northeast of Orange City.
On January 28, 1939, she married Charles Huitink in her family's farm home. They farmed southwest of Orange City, where she was a homemaker. Mr. Huitink passed away on February 1, 1951, at Orange City.
Mrs. Huitink then moved into Orange City, where she cleaned houses and was a cook at the Maurice/ Orange City Schools for ten years. Since 1995, she has made her home with her daughter and her family. They lived in Orange City until 2007, when they moved to Larchwood.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she was active in the women's organizations and participated in a prayer group and served on the visiting committee. She also delivered Meals on Wheels.
She enjoyed doing all kinds of handwork, including making Afghans for her grandchildren. She also liked to bake and read.
Survivors include her daughter and her husband, Carol and Dale Nielsen, of Larchwood; four grandchildren, Chad De Moss, of Anoka, Minnesota; Andrea, and her husband, Lee Hiltner, of Belgrade, Minnesota; Jesse Nielsen, of Alton; and Megan Nielsen, of Glenwood, and her fiance', Jason Cabbage; five great-grandchildren, Karrigan and Kaylin Onstad, Karley and Kameron Hiltner, and Summer Kay Nielsen; a sister and her husband, Alma and Milt Bogaard, of Orange City; and three sisters-in-law, Hattie Kleinhesselink, of Orange City; Dorella Kleinhesselink, of Sioux Center; and Eunice Huitink, of Orange City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Joe R. Kleinhesselink; and Charles family, Dorothy and Brant Bruxvoort, Tracy Huitink, Henry and Charlotte Huitink, Hendrina and Gerrit Punt, Gertrude Harvey, and Clarence and Vera Huitink.
