Lammers, Dennis W. - 1950 -2007

Dennis W. Lammers, 57, of rural Alton died Tuesday, August 7 at St. Elizabeth's Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, as a result of injuries received in an explosion in Sioux Center last week.

Funeral service was Saturday, August 11, at 10 A.M., at the Alton Reformed Church with the Rev. Michael Hardeman and the Rev. Elizabeth Hardeman officiating. Interment was at the Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton.

Lammers was born on April 3, 1950 in Orange City, the son of Donald R. and Annetta (Vande Weerd) Lammers. He was raised at Alton, where he graduated from the Floyd Valley High School. He also attended the Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls. He served in the Army National Guard from Sheldon. On October 23, 1970 he married Deanna Gail Nettinga in Hull. They first lived in Orange City but made their home at Alton most of their married life. He was a truck driver, who first worked at Vogel Paint in Orange City. He then drove his own tractor for Van Ipersen Feed and Grain in Hospers and later for Weinrich Trucking in Hinton. After driving for Crete Carriers in Lincoln, he managed the Farmers Cooperative Station in Alton. He then drove for Harkers and Schuster Trucking, both in LeMars. For the past four years he has driven truck for Sioux Tank Lines in Orange City.

He was a member of Alton Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory as a deacon, was a youth group sponsor and played guitar for a praise team. He also belonged to the Floyd American Legion Post, where he served as commander. He was very mechanical and enjoyed working with engines. He was a handyman, who could repair or fabricate anything. He spent much time working on his family's home. He enjoyed visiting with everyone, making friends wherever he went. His family was very important to him and he loved them dearly.

Survivors include his wife of more than 36 years, Dee; two daughters, Tammy Van Kalsbeek of Sioux Falls, and Michele Lammers of Des Moines, home on leave from the military in Iraq; two sons, Jonathan Lammers and Jeffrey Lammers, both at home in Alton; a grandson; his parents, Don and Annetta Lammers of Alton; two brothers, Kevin Lammers of Oyens and Greg Lammers and his wife Jeanne of Brunsville; three sisters-in-law, Sandra Smith of Newton, Karen and her husband, Greg Schmitt of Cumberland and Jan and her husband Larry Brown of Hull; three brothers-in-law, Mark Nettinga of Reelsville, Indiana, Merrill Nettinga and his wife Marlys of Hull and Myron Nettinga and his wife Sarah of Calabases, California; and 14 nephews and nieces.
