John A. Larson, a pioneer resident of this community, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Denny in Sioux City at 10:45 Saturday night following a lingering illness from a complication of diseases.

His remains were brought to Hawarden and funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Ross Funeral Home with Rev. B. L. Carlton, pastor of the Baptist church at Big Springs, in charge. Burial was made in the cemetery east of Big Springs.

John A. Larson was born in Bodaland, Narka, Sweden, June 6, 1861, and passed away Nov. 5, 1932, at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 29 days. At the age of 20 years he came to American and purchased a farm, seven miles southwest of Hawarden, where he lived for many years. He was united in marriage with Miss Agnes Mattson Oct. 14, 1897. She passed away about two years after their marriage. In 1902 he made a visit to his native country. He was united in marriage with Mrs. Hannah Backstrom May 27, 1907, and for a year they made their home on the farm. In 1908 they moved to Hawarden and for a time he was employed by Chas. W. Keniston when he was engaged in the implement business and when Mr. Keniston sold his business to Steele & Metcalf, Mr. Larson continued in their employ. Later he assisted with the work in Merritt Miller's implement house. During his early life in Union County he united with the Baptist church at Big Springs and he remained loyal to his faith until his death. After the death of his wife in 1930, he went to Sioux Falls and made his home with his daughter, returning to Hawarden last June with Mrs. Denny and her family. In September he accompanied his daughter to Sioux City and made his home there for the past two months. He was bedfast for the past six weeks during which time he was tenderly cared for by his daughter. Beside his daughter, Mrs. Denny, he is survived by two brothers, August E., and Aaron Larson and one sister, Miss Amanda Larson of Hawarden. He is also survived by two grandchildren.

Mr. Larson was honest and upright in dealing with his fellowmen and was a loyal and true friend. When in the employ of others he was always faithful and trustworthy.
