Mrs. Carrie Lande, a former well known resident of Eagle township, passed away Saturday night at her home at Canton following an illness of three weeks from pneumonia. She had been a patient in the hospital at Canton but realizing that the end was near she asked to be taken to her home and was moved there the day preceding her death.

Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church in Canton at 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon following which interment was made at Ireton. Six nephews, Severt Richardson, Curt Richardson, Sanford Dobbe, Adolph Opdahl, Jeffrey Richardson and Alfred Hemmingson served as pall bearers.

Carrie Richardson was born at Lisbon, Il., August 20, 1858 and died at Canton, S.D., January 27, 1940, at the advanced age of 81 years, 5 months and 7 days. She came to Iowa when 5 years of age with her parents when they located near Huxley, Iowa, in Story County, and she grew to young womanhood there. On February 2, 1887 she was united in marriage with George W. Lande, who two years earlier had located on a farm in Eagle Township, six miles northwest of Ireton. Following their marriage they immediately went to housekeeping on the Lande farm and continued to reside there until 1916 when having accumulated a competence, they retired from active farm life and moved to Ireton. After spending about four years in Ireton, they moved to Canton where they built a comfortable home where Mrs. Lande has since continued to reside. Mr. Lande passed away June 8, 1927. One son, John S. Lande, was born to them but he passed away about twenty-five years ago after attaining young manhood. She is survived by one brother, A. J. Richardson of Kingsley, Iowa, also formerly a well known Eagle Township resident.

Mrs. Lande was well known and highly esteemed by many of the older residents of the Hawarden and Ireton communities. She was a woman of splended Christian principles, and was widely known for her good works.
