Leslie Larson, 30, a life long resident of Hawarden, was fatally injured Saturday morning when the truck he was driving turned over on a highway near Rock Valley.

Mr. Larson was taking equipment to Lyon County for the Van Buskirk Construction company prior to commencing work on a road contract.

No one saw the accident, but it was presumed that the truck struck a soft spot on the highway causing Mr. Larson to lose control of the vehicle. However, Henry Hopmann another of Van Buskirk employees, was following Mr. Larson and came to the scene of the accident shortly after it happened. Help was summoned and Sheriff Harry Dykstra was called.

Mr. Larson was taken to the Hawarden hopsital in a Sioux Center ambulance. He was badly crushed on one side and was injured internally. A number of blood transfusions were given. He died about one o'clock.

Leslie Wayne Larson, son of Martin and Augusta Larson, was born at Hawarden on March 22, 1925.

In November, 1942, he joined the U.S. Navy and during World War II was on active duty in various theaters of war. He remained in this service for four years and, at the time of his discharge in December, 1945, he held the rank of a second class seaman.

On September 13, 1946, he maried Hazel Marie Nelson of Canton at Fairview, S.D. and continued his residence in Hawarden. Here he was employed chiefly by the Van Buskirk Construction Company.

Preceding him in death are one son, Rodney Wayne; his father, Martin Larson, and three brothers, Leland who died in the service of his country, Raynold, and Lawrence Carl.

Surviving are the widow, Hazel; two sons, Bruce and Jon; two daughters, Sandra and Susan; his mother, Mrs. Augusta Larson, all of Hawarden; two brothers, Marvin of Hawarden and Reuben of Sun Valley, Calif; three sisters, Mrs. Lucille Murphy and Mrs. Jeanette Cysewski, both of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Ruth Cain of Rapid City, S.D.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon in Trinity Lutheran Church by Rev. O. F. Pittack and the committal was made in Grace Hill cemetery with the Barnard Funeral Home in charge and the local post of the American Legion participating.

Mr. & Mrs. Charles Murphy and Terry of Los Angeles, Reuben Larson of Sun Valley, Calif., and Mr. & Mrs. James Cain and two children of Rapid City, S.D. came for the funeral.
