Mahoney, Virgie, Mrs. Edward - 1878-1954

Mrs. Virgie Belle Mahoney, daughter of Jacob and Clara Harmon, was born Dec. 9, 1878 at Brooklyn, Iowa, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. E. Ellis at Cedar Rapids, Feb. 8, 1954, at 1:30 P.M., Death was due to a heart attack.

Mrs. Mahoney lived in and around Brooklyn until 1894 when she came to Boyden, Ia. In 1902 she was married to Edward George Mahoney and six children were born to this union; an infant daughter who died in 1903, Frances Belle who passed away in 1924, and surviving children, Edna (Mrs. Ronald Ellis) of Cedar Rapids; Esther, (Mrs. Howard Verrips) of Boyden, Mildred of Norway, Iowa, and Edward F. Mahoney of Marshalltown.

The Mahoney's moved from Brooklyn to State Center and lived there for sixteen years. After her husband's death in 1937, she moved to Marshalltown and lived there ten years. The past two years she had been living at Norway, with her daughter Mildred.

She leaves her sister, Mrs. Fred Ederle of Orifino, Idaho her children, and her four grandchildren, Sandra Lee Verrips, John Mahoney, and John and Mary Ellis.

Mrs. Mahoney joined the United Presbyterian church in Boyden many years ago. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the United Presbyterian church with Rev. Baak officiating. Burial was made at the Boyden cemetery.
