Julianna T. Langel, 85, of Alton died Sunday, April 6, at Orange City Area Health System Hospital in Orange City.

Memorial services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alton, with the Revs. Richard D. Ball and James Tigges officiating. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery at Alton.

Mrs. Langel was born December 18, 1922, in Alton to William and Clara (Reith) Minten. She was raised in Alton and received her education at St. Mary Academy in Alton from which she graduated in 1941. On November 27, 1945, she married Clarence Langel at Alton, where they made their home. In 1947 they moved to near Le Mars, where they were engaged in farming. In 1948 they moved to near Alton to farm, retiring on the farm in 1984. She had been a resident of Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City since February 21, 2008.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Mary Rosary Society. She enjoyed baking, bowling and playing cards.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Clarence, of Alton; two sons and their wives, Dennis and Cathy and Gerald "Jerry" and Linda, all of Alton; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Greg (Theresa) Pick of Remsen; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert (Jackie) Minten of Orange City.

She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Judith Langel; four sisters, Melinda and her husband Richard Duits, Margaret Minten in infancy, Eleanor and her husband Lawrence Ruppert, and Bernice and her husband LeRoy Treinen; two brothers, Norbert Minten in infancy and Robert Minten; and a brother-in-law, Greg Pick.
