Betty Jane Vink was born on July 7, 1933, in Carmel, Iowa. She was the daughter of Tony and Harriet (Brunsting) Van Ommeren. She lived her youth in Sheldon, Iowa, where she attended school and graduated from Sheldon High School.
She was united in marriage to Nelson Vink of Sheldon on June 16, 1954, in Sheldon. They continued to live in Sheldon. Nelson passed away on May 4, 1991.
Betty worked as a bookkeeper at several different businesses in Sheldon, which included Maintainer Corporation for many years and Sheldon Grain for over 30 years.
Betty enjoyed everything about life, and her bookwork was her "hobby". She absolutely loved the people she worked with and enjoyed going to her job each and every day. Even when her health was failing her, she wanted to go to work, because she loved it so much. But most of all she loved being a mother and grandmother. She greatly loved her two children and their spouses with all her heart, and she enjoyed talking about them to everyone! She enjoyed her many visits from her family, which always included chocolate cake and a coke! Her quick "wit" and "beautiful smile" will be missed by many. She was a wonderful Christian lady who brought joy to everyone she came in contact with. She was still touching peoples hearts her last days in the hospital. She showed us how to love others by her actions and her words. She loved the Lord with all her heart, and was very ready to be called HOME to live in ETERNITY with our HEAVENLY FATHER.
She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon.
Betty passed away on Monday, June 21, 2010, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter and son-in-law: Barb and Bryan Pollema of Rock Valley, IA; daughter-in-law: Marsha Vink of Rapid City, SD; eight grandchildren: Ashley Vink and Megan Vink of Rapid City, SD, Josh, Katie, Abby, Alissa, Kortney and Kelsey Pollema all of Rock Valley, IA; sisters and brothers-in-law: Alma and Thelmar Boone of Sheldon, IA, Gleora and Marvin DeBruin of Sheldon, IA; brothers and sister-in-law: Tony and Marcia Van Ommeren of Tucson, AZ, Myron Van Ommeren of Sheldon, IA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Marvin and Wilma Vink of Sheldon, IA, Betty Wassenaar of Sheldon, IA, Marie Veen of Sanborn, IA, Vivian and Jim Strayer of Sanborn, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Nelson Vink; son: Nelson Jay Vink; and her parents.
