LYFTOGT, BLOM, RIEMERSMA

Mr. John Lyftogt, age 84, of Orange City, passed away Saturday, December 20 in the Long Term Care Facility of the Orange City Municipal Hospital.

There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, December 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Steven Vander Molen and the Rev. David Ter Beest will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Newkirk Cemetery. There will be a prayer service on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

John was born July 25, 1913 at Hospers, the son of Bernard and Agnes (Riemersma) Lyftogt. On February 16, 1938, he married Anna W. Blom in the family farm home at Newkirk. They farmed near Newkirk for many years. In 1983, they retired and moved into Orange City.

John had been a long-time member of the Newkirk Reformed Church and was currently a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City.

Survivors include his wife; four children and their spouses, Bennett and Carolyn Lyftogt of South Haven, Minnesota; Thelma and Barry Parks of Springfield, Missouri; Jay and Ruth Lyftogt of Orange City; and Mark and Vicki Lyftogt of Exeter, California; ten grandchildren, Debra and her husband, Tim Boylan of Hermosa Beach, California; Michael Lyftogt of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; Tom Parks and his wife, Kym of Centralia, Missouri; Tammy and her husband, Tom Harrill of Springfield; Jason Lyftogt, Stacy Lyftogt and Kayla Lyftogt all of Orange City; and Melissa Lyftogt, Caleb Lyftogt and Sarah Lyftogt all of Exeter; five great-grandchildren; a half-brother and his wife, Gary and Beverly Lyftogt of Phoenix, Arizona; a step-sister and her husband, Anna and Mark Kreykes of Sheldon; a step-brother and his wife, Peter and Micki Groen of Sioux Center; and a step-sister-in-law, Marian Groen, of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Riemersma; a sister, Hattie Tensen; a step-sister, Matilda Hyink; and a step-brother, John Groen.
